This article gives and example of family raising their children bilingual. Studies have long extolled the advantages of being bilingual. Last year, Yudhijit Bhattacharjee wrote in the New York Times: “Bilingual experience improves the brain’s so-called executive function – a command system that directs the attention processes that we use for planning, solving problems and performing various other mentally demanding tasks.” In other words, being bilingual makes one smarter. Another study published in the Journal of Neuroscience showed the brains of people who are bilingual work more efficiently than people who speak only one language.

This New York Times article talks about English-speaking actors who built parallel careers in other languages. It is not clear whether opting for a parallel career in a foreign language is likely to become more common. But the trend is here.
